Rank-in-class
is one measure of industry and intellectual ability, two basic ingredients for
success in college academic work. It does not measure all the important human assets;
for example, it says nothing about character or personality, manual dexterity, social
intelligence or practical intelligence, imagination, maturity, etc. For this reason,
the recommendations made are based on what marks are the best predictors of college
academic success. This does not mean that all courses in the areas of business, art,
TV Production and music are less difficult than some ranked higher, but these are
poorer predictors of college academic success. Colleges want rank-in-class based on
these predictors.
