student receiving award from Superintendent
At the 10/4/16 School Committee, Superintendent Nancy Gustafson presented Madison Riley with the Superintendent's Award for Academic Excellence.  The award is presented to a student that has demonstrated academic achievement and distinction in the areas of scholarship, leadership and citizenship.   Madison has been a class representative throughout high school, and has held top leadership roles with three organizations in our school including co-vice president of Common Ground, treasurer of Amnesty International, and vice president of our National Honor Society. In addition, she is a member of our Junior Leo's club, and a peer leader. She was chosen by staff to represent Millis High School at the Hugh O'Brien Youth Conference (HOBY) her sophomore year. She has tutored for area families throughout high school, served as a nanny for a local family for almost two years, works at the Black Cow, coaches a youth swim team, swims on a team herself, is an avid horseback rider and so much more. She has also been a member of our band throughout her educational career. Madison is also a member of our Spanish Immersion program. Impressively, Madison has never earned a grade less than an A, not even an A-, during her high school career! This year she is doing a work study with Mr. Alconada, essentially serving as a Teaching Assistant for his AP Biology class, a class in which she excelled last year as a student where she earned a perfect score of 5 on the AP exam!
