Middle School Mid-term Progress Reports

Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades 6-8: Today, Friday, October 21, mid-term progress reports are being sent home with students in grades 6-8. Please sign and return the bottom portion to indicate you have reviewed the progress report with your child.

Parents/Guardians of Students in Grade 5: We will not be sending home progress reports for students in grade 5 this year because we are in the midst of transitioning from a traditional report card with letter grades to a Standards-Based Report Card, similar to that which was received in 4th grade at the Clyde Brown School. Standards-Based grading is a system that describes student progress in relation to standards. It will provide an indication of whether the student demonstrates mastery on a set of grade-level standards in all content areas. It will also describe the student's performance on a set of Learner Qualities. We are making this change to provide a more accurate picture of what students are learning, to provide more specific feedback, to document progress on specific learning standards, and to help us make better instructional decisions.
During Team Conferences on Oct. 27, Nov. 1, and Nov. 2, you will have an opportunity to discuss your child's progress. At the end of Trimester 1, during the first week in December, your child will receive a Grade 5 Standards-Based Report Card. Prior to that, we will be sharing additional information with parents to help you understand and interpret the report. If you would like information, or have concerns about your child in the meantime, please feel free to contact any of the 5th grade teachers.
