Letter to Middle School Families

Dear Middle School families,

I have always loved the first days of school - for the excitement and positive energy they bring! Mostly I love being surrounded by the smiling faces of your children; they make the building come alive! Our first day went smoothly and I want to publicly thank, again, all school staff, secretaries, the tech department, custodians, and bus drivers, who worked together to make the day happen. We have quite a team!

This week was spent getting to know your children, building relationships, and enticing them to love learning and being in school. Yesterday, I met with each grade level and shared our vision for them as learners, who are resourceful, goal-oriented, and motivated. We talked about learning to communicate and collaborate - with peers, teachers, family and community members. We talked about learning to be creative problem-solvers and persistent thinkers. Students are busy building personal learning profiles to better understand themselves as learners and to help their teachers personalize instruction better.

It is our ongoing goal to continue building character and citizenship in our school. These themes are embedded in lessons all year long. We know that a positive school culture is the most important factor in improving student achievement and growth, and the Middle School has always communicated a strong message of inclusion, tolerance, and kindness. This year will be no different.

Thank you for supporting our school and working with us to help your child have a happy and successful year. If there is ever a concern or information you would like to share, please do not hesitate to contact us! Be sure to visit the Millis Public School’s new website regularly and sign up for our Listserve/Newsletter for news and information, as we hope to improve our communication with you. Enjoy the long weekend!

Sincerely,

Maureen Knowlton
