Return to In-Person Learning at MHS
Published on Apr 7, 2021 08:43

Dear Millis High School Community,

The Millis School Committee voted last night to approve a return to full in-person learning for grades 9-12 at Millis High School starting on Monday, May 3.  We would like to thank everyone who came together to make this happen, and are very excited to welcome all of our students back to MHS!  It's certainly been a long time since we had a building full of students, and we look forward to the extra buzz that will be filling our hallways and classrooms again.

We especially want to thank all of our families for their patience and flexibility as we have built up to this moment over the course of the school year.  We also appreciate you for taking the time to fill out the in-person learning survey we sent out a few weeks ago.  We will be preparing for our return to full in-person school based on the information you provided indicating if your student would be coming full in-person or remaining remote for the remainder of the school year.  Distancing in classrooms will be between 3-6 feet, depending on the setup of the classroom, but we will continue to maintain 6 feet of distance when eating, unmasked during planned mask breaks, and traveling in the building.  Our safety protocols will remain in place, and as we move toward our return to in-person learning and beyond, it's more important than ever that we continue to be vigilant in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The education, safety, and wellness of your children is always our top priority.  Staff throughout our school system has worked tirelessly this year to connect with and provide the best education possible to our students given the ever-changing nature of, and guidance surrounding, the pandemic.  There is a great deal of hope on the horizon with vaccine numbers rising every day, more sectors of our economy opening back up for business, and now with our entire school system opening up for full in-person learning by the first week of May.

We will provide more specific information/guidance to our families and students in the coming weeks as we plan for our return to in-person learning at the high school, but wanted to share this news with you as we gear up for May 3.  I truly cannot begin to tell you how excited our entire staff is to have the majority of their students back in the classroom with them.  We hope the end of the school year will be a preview of what's to come for the 2021-22 school year, and a return to more normalcy in our schools and community.

With Gratitude,

Mark Awdycki
