Good afternoon Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,

I hope this non-COVID related letter finds you well.  I am writing to inform you of a number of changes to the Millis Public Schools Administrative Team for next year due to retirements and reorganization.

After six years as our Director of Student Services and over 35 years in education, Dr. Sue Anne Marks is retiring.  Dr. Marks has had a profound impact on our schools and students.  Over the course of her time in Millis Dr. Marks has developed and shepherded a number of innovative programs and services that have improved the quality of education and related services for our students with the highest needs.  We are currently in the process of screening candidates for Dr. Marks’ position.

Also, after twelve years as Millis Schools Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Ms. Joan Lynn is stepping down to retire.  Ms. Lynn’s influence has reached every corner of our district.  She has helped drive our initiatives including personalization, blended learning, and  writing across the curriculum.  She has also led our professional development and English Language Learner programs.  To fill this position I have reorganized the Millis Public Schools Administrative Team and Millis Middle School Principal Mrs. Maureen Knowlton has agreed to move to the position of Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment starting in July.  Mrs. Knowlton has been an outstanding leader at our middle school, and I am excited that she will be utilizing her skills and knowledge about teaching and learning in a district-wide role.

With the reorganization we will be looking for a new principal at Millis Middle School to start in July of 2021.  A search team representing administrators, staff, and parents will be formed to evaluate candidates for the position.  We will also be sending out a survey for middle school parents to provide input on the qualities most desired in a new principal.

I would like to thank Dr. Marks and Ms. Lynn for all they have done for the students of Millis.  Their commitment, knowledge, and leadership have helped make our district a high-performing system that educates all our students.  We hope to build on the strong foundations they have provided as we prepare to welcome new leaders to the Millis Public Schools.

Sincerely,

Robert Mullaney

Superintendent
