Millis Public Schools Schedule Change in January
Published on Dec 23, 2020 14:50

December 23, 2020

Dear Millis Families,

As you are probably aware, there has been a discrepancy between in-person days for Cohort A and B, with Cohort A students receiving more in-person instruction during the course of the year.  This has been exacerbated by the recent “remote” day on December 17 due to snow.  Additionally, Cohort B students had to switch to completely asynchronous learning for a good part of December 7 and all of December 8 as the school had no Internet service.

To help mitigate the disparity, we had Cohort B come in for in-person learning yesterday (Tuesday, December 22), and we will be adjusting our schedule for the January Professional Development day.  The Professional Development day originally scheduled for Friday, January 15, has been moved to Tuesday, January 19.  January 15 will now be a regular school day for students with Cohort A learning remotely and Cohort B students learning in person.  On Tuesday, January 19 (the day following Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), students will have no school as staff will be participating in professional development.

We realize that this schedule change may cause inconvenience for some of our families, but feel it is important to have as much equity with live in-person instruction between the cohorts as possible.  We will continue to monitor this issue as the year progresses.  Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we continue to adapt to challenging circumstances.

We would like to wish all of our families a happy and refreshing holiday season.

Best wishes,

Bob Mullaney

Superintendent
