Holiday Travel and Gathering Guidelines

Dear Millis families,

As our students and staff all get ready for a well-deserved break, I would like to remind you of concerns around family travel and/or gatherings over the holidays.  Yesterday, Governor Baker urged Massachusetts residents “to stay within their immediate household over the course of this holiday season.”  According to the Governor, “We are not asking them to do this forever, we are asking them to do it for the next 10-12 days.”  As we approach school vacation we ask all members of our Millis community to please adhere to state guidelines regarding travel restrictions and in-person gatherings.  Although the numbers of positive cases in our town have risen, so far there has been no transmission within our schools and we believe that following health and safety protocols is a big factor in this.  We want to keep our schools open following vacation.

Anyone who does travel to a “high-risk” state must submit an online travel form with the state.  Unless traveling to a low-risk state (currently the only low-risk state is Hawaii), individuals entering Massachusetts must quarantine for 10 days or produce a negative COVID-19 test. Specific requirements are set out in the Massachusetts Travel Advisory (https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order).  Please remember that no student who has traveled out of state will be allowed to return to Millis schools until travel regulations are met.

To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 we are asking families to seriously consider the impact of travel and extended family gatherings this holiday season.  We appreciate the sacrifices that our students, staff, and families are making so that our schools are able to remain open for in-person learning.  On behalf of the entire staff of the Millis Public Schools, I would like to wish all of our families a safe and relaxing holiday season.

Best wishes,

Bob Mullaney

Superintendent
