Dear Millis Schools Family,

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches we all are adjusting our family holiday traditions.  Governor Baker has publicly urged people to stay at home and celebrate exclusively with their typical household members.  Millis Public Schools urges you to do the same.  Our staff is prepared to return to school on November 30th to teach your child(ren), but many are expressing that they are nervous about families traveling, or accepting guests and bringing COVID-19 into our school community when school resumes. Large gatherings with individuals from outside of your household, especially indoors and unmasked (for ex. when eating) are prime settings for COVID-19 transmission.  While we hope that many families will stay home, we realize that some will travel or host gatherings with non-household attendees.  No matter what you plan to do personally, please read through the following information to be fully informed of potential scenarios and Millis responses.

Safest

Limit your holiday celebration to household family members only
Limit interactions with non-household members
Maintain masking (regardless of distance), physical distancing, and hand hygiene in your daily activities outside your home

Safer

If you choose to see people outside of your household:

Remain within Massachusetts
Maintain universal masking
Abide by MA social gathering limits (limit of 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors)
Refrain from eating, drinking, or removing masks for any reason in the presence of others
Hold the gathering outside and plan for adequate physical distancing
Take a masked walk outside with family members who do not live within your household

If you choose to travel:

Familiarize yourself with the Massachusetts Travel Order
https:
www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order
All individuals traveling to Massachusetts, including residents returning from travel to non-exempt states, must complete the online travel form and obtain a negative COVID test conducted within three days prior to Massachusetts entry or be subject to a fourteen day quarantine.  All individuals who do not have their negative test results upon entry to MA must remain in quarantine until the negative results are received.

Millis Public School Response:

In an effort to protect the health of our staff and students, and as a sign of respect for the dedication they exhibit, Millis Public Schools will enforce the Massachusetts Travel Order.  Families should expect that we will monitor the Safety APP, and follow up with families who have traveled outside of Massachusetts for the holiday.  We will be asking for a negative COVID test prior to return, or a 14 day quarantine period.  Please understand that this is meant to instill confidence in our community and maintain safety at school.  We must take extra precautions to safeguard our community.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support to ensure that MPS is the safest learning environment possible for our teachers and students.  We wish you a restful and safe Thanksgiving.

With Kind regards,
