Millis Health and Safety Committee

                     Small School, Big Family

October 19, 2020

Dear Millis Community,

We are delighted that through the hard work of the administration, faculty and members of our school and town community that we have been able to move into hybrid learning in the Millis Public Schools. As we reopen the schools and transition into this in-person learning, the School Health and Safety Committee is writing to ask families in our community to continue to do the things necessary to ensure that we are able to educate students in-person and keep our school buildings open. We truly appreciate the sacrifices that members of our community are making on a daily basis to enable us to move into this next stage of learning and hope that we can continue our shared responsibility by ensuring we remain careful, vigilant and avoid taking actions that could lead to requiring our schools to return to remote learning once more. We ask that everyone is able to maintain the following safety precautions to help avoid the spread of COVID-19:

?      Face coverings need to be worn when in public, both in and out of school, especially when social distance is hard to ensure.

?      6ft distancing continues when with others whenever possible, both in public, during sporting events or practices and of course when in public buildings or on public premises.

?      Avoid large social gatherings. It is particularly important to not gather with others for indoor events outside of your family. This continues to be a major risk factor for the spread of the virus

?      Continue to clean your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

?      Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily.

?      Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings and when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. More information can be found on these CDC websites:

It remains absolutely critical that as a community we do not let our guard down as we begin seeing students in person once more. The global pandemic continues to affect us here in Millis and threatens to increase the levels of infection across the state and the country. We all must continue to make sacrifices to keep ourselves and our students safe and healthy, so that we are able to attend school in-person as often and for as long as possible. We are regularly reminded by our neighbors and friends that we are all in this together and we appreciate and rely heavily on every member of our community to continue to follow these guidelines and act in a responsible manner to keep our students learning in person. Thank you all so much for your help!

Best regards,

The Millis Schools Health and Safety Committee:
