Virtual Senior College Planning Night is October 1 / MEFA Financial Aid Webinar Opportunities
The Millis High School Counseling Department would like to invite parents and students in the Class of 2021 to Virtual Senior College Planning Night on Thursday, October 1, at 6:30pm. Millis High School counselors, Mark Awdycki and Loren Puffer (who has taken over for Riley Dunn while she is out on maternity leave), will give a presentation that will explain the post-secondary/college planning process, and will take your questions during the evening. Though we'd love to be meeting with all of you in person, due to current circumstances we'll be hosting our night live on Zoom. You need to register ahead of time for the evening, and can do so by going to the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0lfuysrz0uHdGe4UJsOhWSoubgyHxGyGth. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. For those of you unable to make it, we will provide a recording of the night in the School Counseling area of the Millis High School website following the event (hs.millisps.org/for_students/counseling).
Traditionally, we would also have a representative from the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (www.mefa.org) on hand to give an overview of the financial aid process as well, but they are not scheduling in-person events at this time. However, beginning Monday, September 28 and going through Thursday, November, 5, MEFA will be hosting live College Financing webinars daily, Monday-Thursday. The webinars will be on Monday's and Wednesday's at 12pm, and Tuesday's and Thursday's at 6:30pm. See the full schedule of events, and register online ahead of time at www.mefa.org/events. You will be able to access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning on October 1, so book your webinar session soon to get your questions answered about this important process.
Finally, if you have not returned the Parent Information Form that was handed out at the Junior Parent College Planning Night this past February, please send that in to your child's school counselor as soon as possible. The Parent Information Form is a great help to the school counselors in writing your child's college recommendation. The Parent Information Form is available on your child's Naviance account, or on their Class of 2021 College and Career Google Classroom. You are also welcome to email your child's school counselor if you need another copy of the Parent Information Form.
