Phase 2 of Remote Learning (April 6-May 4)
Published on Apr 6, 2020 08:37

Good morning families,

I hope this message finds your family well.  Today we will be beginning our second phase of online learning.  There are a few changes that I'd like to make you aware of.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student's teachers, counselors, or me if you have any questions.  Please note that because of the fluid nature of this virus and our shutdown, there are some details that are still uncertain at the moment, but we will have a better idea when we get a clearer picture of when we will all be able to return to school.  Here are the important points as we move forward:

1.  We will be combining terms 3 and 4, and final grades will be based on 3 trimesters rather than 4 terms.  If your student still owes term 3 work that was due on or before March 13 (our last day physically here), she/he should arrange with her/his teacher to make it up.  If the student owes a quiz or a test, a teacher may be able to provide an alternate assessment in lieu of the original assignment.  Students and teachers may agree on a reasonable time period for the make up, but in no case shall it be after May 4.  I implore students who owe graded work for term 3 to use this opportunity to make up the work!

2.  Work assigned from April 6 until May 4 will be assessed on a "Credit/No Credit" basis.  As with our first two weeks of online learning, students will be provided weekly assignments.  Teachers may give a suggested timeline to help students budget their time, but the assignments will be on a weekly basis.  Feedback for a given assignment might include a score, but that score will not be calculated for the final grade.  Teachers will set criteria as to what earns Credit or No Credit for an assignment.  Please don't hesitate to contact your student's teacher if you have any questions on a particular assignment.  Assignments will be recorded in PowerSchool.  The weight given to the Credit/No Credit portion of this third trimester will be determined when it becomes clearer as to when we will be returning to school.

3.  April school functions have been canceled.  The prom, originally scheduled for May 15 has been rescheduled for June 25.  Other functions in May and June (awards ceremonies, senior activities, etc.) will be reviewed when it becomes clearer as to our return to school.

Thank you all for your patience and flexibility as we confront this pandemic.  These circumstances are new for all of us, and our primary concern is that our students and their families are safe.  Please continue to have your student stay at home and follow proper social distancing measures.  The experts say we will be seeing a big spike in the next couple of weeks, but it appears our preventative measures will mitigate a good deal of the damage that would happen otherwise.  Now more than ever we need to take this crisis seriously and do what is necessary to stem the spread of COVID-19.

School is very strange without our students.  It is way too quiet and I cannot wait until we are all here together again.  If the school can help your family in any way as we deal with this crisis, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Please be safe.

Sincerely,
Bob Mullaney
