Millis High School Online Learning Begins Monday 3/23
Published on Mar 18, 2020 15:11

Good afternoon,

I hope this email finds you and your families well.  As mentioned in Superintendent Nancy Gustafson’s communication yesterday, Millis Public Schools will begin providing online learning opportunities for students beginning on Monday March 23.  Consistent with the guidance of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, these online learning experiences are not intended to replicate the traditional school day but rather to provide opportunities for continuity of learning for our students. The average amount of school engagement during the day will be about 2-3 hours (this is a combined total, not the amount of time per class).  The goal is to stay engaged, not necessarily make up for all of the days we miss.

Your student’s teachers will be reaching out on Monday with a plan for the week ahead.  Teachers will provide feedback on assigned work and keep track of completed work. Students will be encouraged to communicate with their teacher via email with any questions they may have.  Since all of our students have devices and our teachers use Google Classroom and/or itsLearning, we are well-positioned for online learning. That being said, we are in an unprecedented situation, and there may be some glitches along the way.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. If your student does not have access to a device or an internet connection, please contact me.

Students who currently take online classes through VHS or TEC will continue with those classes with no interruption.  All required assignments and assessments are to be completed with the normal timelines. If a student has a question about a VHS or TEC class, she/he should first reach out to her/his instructor.  If students still have questions, they should contact our online coordinator Mrs. Jones at [email protected]

There have been some questions about the end of term 3 which was originally scheduled for March 27.  The plan right now is to have term 3 extend one week into the time when we come back to school. This plan is subject to change if circumstances change.

It is my belief that virtually connecting with classes, teachers, and classmates will bring a sense of normality back to our lives.  This will allow students to better structure their day while following the practices that will hopefully slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  It is really incredible when we consider the speed at which our lives have changed over the past few weeks. I would like to thank parents and students for their flexibility and cooperation as we have confronted this situation.  Again, please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Bob Mullaney
Principal Millis High School
