Winter Holiday Reflection
Published on Dec 22, 2017 14:43

Dear Millis Families, Caregivers and Community Members,

As I walked through our buildings today I was struck by how truly precious our children are; not just the because of the feelings of pride and love we have as parents, caregivers and educators, but precious because in our children we are seeing the future.  I like to think we are helping to make the future better through our children. They make me hopeful.

During the winter holidays we celebrate the love of family and friends and are grateful for being a part of a community and connected to others. We reflect upon the year past, plan for how to make the new year even better, and express gratitude for the joy and love in our lives, and then make resolutions about trying to be healthier or be a better person. The holidays are actually very hard for some people since there is a certain manufactured and materialistic picture of what the holidays SHOULD look like and often they don't look that way at all. We miss loved ones who have passed and we sometimes have such high expectations for what this upcoming week SHOULD be that we neglect to notice the beauty in the things that are.

I hope you all have a wonderful holidays week and that you and all your loved ones have the time this week to slow down, laugh together, celebrate your connectedness, and notice the love shown in simple gestures. Wishing you all a very healthy and happy New Year!

With love,
