Gr. 5 students excelled at the Wax Museum sticky icon

On Friday, May 11th, over 100 fifth grade students made history "come alive" in the annual Wax Museum. Biographical presentations of historical characters greeted parents, teachers and friends as these students portrayed their characters. "Famous People" included Albert Einstein, John Lennon, Sacagawea, Henry Ford, Larry Bird, Tom Brady, Helen Keller, Princess Diana, Mia Hamm, Barack Obama, George Patton, Lebron James, and even Li'l Wayne.

The last day to check books out of the library will be Friday, May 24th. All students are reminded to return books before the end of school.

Summer Reading lists will be posted soon and we are planning another pre-order sale of the books. Watch for the posting.

Successful Poetry Event at the Public Library! Check the photos!

On Monday, April 9th, students and staff from Millis Middle/High School presented original poetry at the Millis Public Library's Poetry Coffeehouse. Approximately a dozen 'poets' recited their work before an audience of family, friends and staff. The poems will be on display through the end of the month.

Rachel Silverman, Children/YA Librarian at Millis Public Library, has created a new Facebook page for teens. http://www.facebook.com/MillisPublicLibraryTeens

She invites students to use it to share upcoming events, book movie and music recommendations, and to share ideas and suggestions. Message her with questions or suggestions (RSilverman@minlib.net) and post on the wall, but keep in mind that this is a public site. Negative or inappropriate comments will not be permitted.

"Mix It Up Snack Day" Feb. 1st: Stop Bullying & Be Friends!

          The Grade 6 “Anti-Bullying” library class hosted a "Mix It Up Snack Day" on Feb. 1st in the library. About 65 students from three "Unified Arts" groups gathered to have a snack, talk about various topics, and get to know each other. The focus:  to "make friends, not bullies" and the sixth grade group organized this.

Hello, Dolley! A great performance!

On Wed., Feb. 15th, the famous First Lady Dolley Madison visited the fifth grade. giving an informational program about the War of 1812. Through the talents of character performer Janet Parnes, learned about Mrs. Madison's biographical background as well as discover how to bring historical figures "to life".

Banned Book Participants - check the COW

The Middle/High School library celebrated "Banned Books Week" from Sept. 24th through Oct. 1st.  Millis Staff participated in the "Virtual Read Out" by the American Library Association. Here's our "Clip of the Week" about it!

The Middle/High School library is open daily, from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for students in the Millis Middle/High School. Beginning September 28th, we'll extend hours until 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
