Housing needed for the Spanish Consular Classroom Assistant for 2017-2018

Would you enjoy sharing your home with our incoming Spanish Consular Classroom Assistant beginning in late September? Each year, the Spanish government makes it possible for Millis to host a language and cultural assistant through their international exchange program. The consular assistant arrives in late September and stays until the end of the school year, sharing the Spanish language and culture with students in our immersion and non-immersion classes on the elementary and secondary level while also learning about the culture of the United States through both the classroom and homestay experiences.

A number of Millis families have shared their homes with consular assistants over the past decade; all that is required is a private bedroom for the student, breakfast and dinner, and wireless access. The family would also be responsible for picking up the student at Logan Airport in late September. The homestay is designed as a cultural exchange experience and does not include childcare or household responsibilities. The district provides bus transportation to school each day and lunch in one of our cafeterias. Students hold medical insurance and have had a full series of vaccinations. All assistants are non-smoking. They are eager to share their language and culture with a family!

Please contact the district's main office at 508-376-7000 if you would be interested in hosting this year.

Flock a Friend for Destination Imagination

Send our Flock to Tennessee!

The Millis Elementary Level Improvisation Team is raising funds for a trip to the University of Tennessee to represent Massachusetts at the Destination Imagination Global Finals.

Please support their efforts by Flocking a Friend!

For a $25 donation, a flock of flamingos will come to roost on the lawn of a friend (or victim!) for 24 hours. The bird will land on an unsuspecting lawn in the evening and, by the next morning, your friend will be seeing pink.

The birds will be whisked away by a Destination Imagination supporter the following evening.

If you’d like to Flock a Friend, email [email protected] with the following:

 • Name of Friend/“Victim” to be flocked

• Their physical address (Note: flamingos are not allowed to flock on public property and apartment complexes)

• Any special instructions

• Your name and phone

• Also, please indicate if you’d like it to be known that you ordered the flocking.

Send your donation, checks payable to Millis DI, Inc., to Millis DI c/o Mike Banks, 161 Forest Rd., Millis, MA 02054.

Thank you for your support!
