district Report Card 2017

Dear Families:

I am pleased to present you with the Report Card for the Millis Public Schools.  It contains important information about teacher qualifications, student achievement on Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests, and the progress we are making toward helping students become proficient in English language arts and mathematics.  The federal Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA), requires school districts to report student assessment results and teacher qualifications to the community on an annual basis.  Millis’ Report Card results are available to you on the district webpage: www.millisps.org, please click the For Parents tab, Curriculum tab and select 2017 District Report Cards.

Student enrollment and teacher quality:

This section of the report card provides information about the students and teachers in our schools as compared to the state. If your child attends Clyde F. Brown, the school that receives Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers

  • Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach
  • Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver
  • The college degree and major of your child’s teacher
  • Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications

Assessment results:

This section of the report shows how our students are performing on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests as compared to the state.

School and district accountability information:

Accountability and Assistance Levels: Schools and districts are placed into one of five accountability and assistance levels (1-5), with the highest performing in Level 1 and lowest performing in Level 5.   Clyde F Brown Elementary and Millis Middle Schools have been given an accountability designation of “no level” because students in our school participated in the 2017 Next-Generation MCAS tests and there is no comparable data yet.    Millis High School has been placed into Level 2 due to a reported low participation of high needs (economically disadvantaged, ELL, or Special Education) students due to two students moving in between testing periods.

School Percentiles

A school percentile between 1 and 99 is reported for most schools. This number shows the overall performance of our school relative to other schools that serve the same or similar grades.   The High School had a school percentile of 79.  This means that our school is performing higher than 79 percent of the high schools in the state.

Progress and Performance Index (PPI): The PPI is a number that indicates our school’s progress toward narrowing proficiency gaps, or, in other words, helping all students reach proficiency and preparing for success after high school. Massachusetts has set a goal of reducing proficiency gaps by half between the years 2011 and 2017. For a group of students to be considered to be making sufficient progress toward narrowing proficiency gaps, its cumulative PPI must be 75 or higher.  In Millis, the High School has a cumulative PPI of 92.

It is my hope that you will find the Report Card helpful in providing you with a snapshot of the Millis schools.  If you have questions about the data, please call me, or your building principal.  Thanks for your continued support of the work we do to make the Millis Public Schools the best they can be.

Sincerely,

Joan Lynn

Director of Curriculum
