CFB Community Builds Scarecrows for MERIT

MERIT (Millis Educational Resources Initiative Team) is a non-profit Local Education Fund established for the purpose of fostering excellence in the Millis Public Schools. Through fundraising, MERIT awards grants to Millis educators who are looking for equipment or materials to establish innovative learning in their classrooms.

MERIT’s hallmark fundraising event this year is the Haunted Hay Ride and Barn Dance held at Tangerini Farms on Saturday, October 22.  This year, CFB will help!  Through this month’s theme of Collaboration, students in each classroom will work to plan, design, and create a “classroom scarecrow” together which will be donated to the MERIT event this year!  Classroom teachers are looking for donations from families for the construction of these team scarecrows – the scarecrows will be displayed and raffled off during the evening at the Haunted Hayride & Barn Dance.

Please stop by Tangerini Farms with your CFB student over the weekend to visit the scarecrows and take a chance in the raffle – who knows: you could go home with your very own “collaborative scarecrow” which benefits the great work MERIT supports!

CFB Students Present Tech Project at Mass CUE Conference - Gillette Stadium

On Wednesday, October 19, Grade 3 teacher Mrs. Anne Valluzzi and several of her students from last year will present a Project Based Learning product they produced at this year's MassCUE (Massachusetts Computer Using Eductors) Conference!

Last spring, Anne Valluzzi and Instructional Technology teacher Pat Granchelli collaborated to teach students how to integrate research, collaboration, technology and presentation skills through their Social Studies project “Live From…A Massachusetts Landmark”.  Students selected a Massachusetts landmark and, using text resources and internet research, created a presentation that used green screen technology to put themselves in the center of their “landmark” – they enjoyed the planning, storyboarding, image selection, filming, and presentation of their projects!  The students, Mrs. Valluzzi and Mrs. Granchelli are excited to share their best work with other educators at the conference!  Congratulations to these students and teachers for their excellence in project based learning – GO CFB BEARS!
