July 2020 Family Survey and Draft Reopening Plan
Published on Jul 24, 2020 16:06

Dear Millis Families,

The Millis Public Schools have been planning carefully for a Fall reopening of school with the safety and well-being of students and staff as the primary consideration. We have several advisory groups that have been meeting and appreciate the feedback you gave on a survey at the end of June. Since that time we have received more guidance from the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education and incorporated it into our planning.

Our plan includes several safety protocols, including but not limited to, 6 ft. of physical distancing in classrooms, masks at all times for Gr.2 and up and recommended for PK - Gr.1, greater disinfecting, frequent handwashing and hand sanitizing, daily symptom checks at home for students and staff, cohorting of students to decrease interactions, and procedures for lunches, passing, entry and exit in order to minimize exposure.

Please read our Preliminary DRAFT Plan for Reopening. Many details are still being developed and we are awaiting further guidance in some specific areas. That said, we would like to gain your feedback and information about your plans for the Fall.

Brief summary of our current plan:

  1. Phase One is for staff training on safety and wellness protocols and teacher development of curricula and lessons.

  2. Phase Two- We will include an Orientation portion at the beginning of this Hybrid Phase so that families and students are able to feel comfortable with all of the newly required protocols and procedures and so that we can emphasize student social-emotional wellness.

  3. Phase Three- Students begin attending school the first or second week of September in a Hybrid Model in which approximately 50% of the students attend in person for two days per week and the other 50% on two other days per week. Students will be attending remote school from home on the other three days of the week. Scheduling for some students with high needs may differ.

  4.  Phase Four- After a period that is as of yet undefined, if the metrics that we develop in consultation with the Department of Public Health indicate that it is safe to do so, we will move to a fully in-person model with all students still maintaining 6 feet of distance in classrooms.

Please answer the following July 2020 Family Survey questions in order to aid us in planning. Thank you for your patience as we develop plans that are in the best interest of our students.
