Challenging Times
Published on Jun 4, 2020 17:04

Good afternoon,

The last few weeks have been very challenging for our country.  The killing of George Floyd has sent shock waves through our nation.  We understand the anger that this killing has generated and see the need for change.  We've seen some protests that have spiraled into violence.  We've also seen young people band together peacefully to call for an end to the injustices suffered by so many people of color, particularly young African American men.

On Tuesday afternoon, a number of young citizens of Millis organized a peaceful demonstration to address injustice.  Obviously, if we were in school, the current climate would be a topic of discussion in many classrooms.  Some students have expressed a desire to discuss the topic in our current virtual environment, and their teachers have provided a forum.  We know too that these current events have resulted in open and sometimes difficult conversations about race, prejudice, and injustice among our families.  You may find some of the resources below helpful as you confront these issues with your children.  I am confident that the young people of today are doing better than my generation when it comes to awareness and appreciation of the diversity that exists in our country.  It gives me hope that they will help lead us to a better world.

Sincerely,
Bob Mullaney
