Spanish Assistant Host Family Needed 2018-2019
Published on Jul 2, 2018 08:50
Dear Families,
Each year, the Spanish
government makes it possible for Millis to host a language and cultural
assistant through their international exchange program. The cultural
assistant arrives in late September and stays until the end of the
school year, sharing Spanish language and culture with students in
our immersion and non-immersion classes in the high school while also learning about the culture of the United States through
both the classroom and homestay experiences. In the past, the cultural assistant has been shared among all three schools, but this year we are fortunate to have an assistant who will be dedicated to the high school!
Please let us know if you are interested in hosting this assistant. A number of Millis families
have shared their homes with cultural assistants in the past;
all that is required is a private bedroom for the assistant, breakfast and
dinner, and wireless access. The family would also be responsible for
picking up the assistant at Logan Airport in late September. The homestay
is designed as a cultural exchange experience and does not include
childcare or household responsibilities. The district provides bus
transportation to school each day and lunch in one of our cafeterias. Cultural assistants hold medical insurance and have had a full series of
vaccinations. All assistants are non-smoking. They are eager to share
their language and culture with a family!
Thank you for considering hosting an assistant. They provide our students with the opportunity to speak and listen to a native speaker, which is a tremendous aid in learning Spanish. They also teach our students about the culture of their home in Spain. Cultural assistants have been outstanding resources for the Spanish Department at our school!
Please contact the district's main office at 508-376-7000 if you would be interested in hosting this coming school year. Please feel free to call (508-376-7010) or email me if you have any questions about the program and/or family responsibilities.
Sincerely,
Bob Mullaney
