important info needed for upcoming ECG screens 2/7 & 2/8
Published on Jan 24, 2018 09:03

Did you know:

Sudden Cardiac Death is the #1 medical killer of young athletes and the #2 medical cause of death among youth under the age of 25

1 out of 200 adolescents will harbor a potential lethal undiagnosed cardiac condition

The ECG is 9x more likely to identify a potential lethal undiagnosed cardiac condition than the usual history and physical done at a well visit.

On February 7th and 8th the Millis Middle High School will be partnering with the Boston ECG Project to provide non-invasive ECG screens to students ages 12-18. This screening is optional and the cost is $35. This is an excellent opportunity to have your child screened by trained nurses/ECG technicians in a quick and non-invasive manner during school hours. The screen will take only 5-10 minutes to perform and your child can sign up for a time slot that works well with their class schedule. All ECG's will be read by Dr. John Cadigan, a cardiologist from Boston Medical Center. He will follow-up with all of the student's parents/guardian with the results of their child's screening and if needed communicate with your child's pediatrician to ensure that the necessary steps are taken for follow-up.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO WATCH THE 2 SHORT VIDEOS BELOW. In the first video you will hear from parents about experiences with their children and the second video tells the story of Dr. Cadigan's son Jack and how they discovered he had a cardiac defect that needed immediate surgery. Both are very beneficial and helpful in understanding the importance of this screening for all students. If you were unable to attend the parent info meeting and have questions please feel free to contact Lynn Molinari RN or Jamie Farias AT and we would be happy to answer any questions you might have about this project.

Thank you for taking the time to better understand the importance of the Boston ECG Project.
