Construction Impacts
Published on Nov 16, 2017 12:31

Dear Parents and Community,

It's a reality!  All of the hard work of staff, School Committee, Elementary School Building Committee, town boards, legislators, parents and the community is coming to fruition with the start of construction!  So along with the vision and promise of a new elementary building for our students come the inconveniences and interruptions of construction.

Today they are setting up the perimeter fencing of the construction area and next week site work will begin. The tennis courts, basketball court and adjacent parking area will no longer be accessible. To travel between buildings students and parents will proceed along the sidewalk and go down the "fire road" toward Town Hall.  They can then walk outside the fencing on the grass if going to the Clyde Brown Building. We will make sure a path is plowed this winter so that it is a shorter route than staying on the roads.

Parking and traffic may be impacted during construction over the next two years so we ask that if you are dropping off or picking up a student at the Middle/High School that you NOT stop in the crosswalk and, instead, drive as far down the drop off lane as possible to allow others to pull in behind you. Also, please consider having your Middle and High School age children take the bus, the proven safest way to school. I am attaching bus registration sheets. The cost (if inside the 2 mile limit) will be pro-rated and can be one-way and seasonal due to athletics schedules. Also, if your family qualifies for free or reduced lunch, bussing is also free.

Other aggravations may occur during construction but we will do our best to listen, figure out solutions and communicate with you all. Please don't hesitate to contact my office about any concerns. As always, student safety is our most important focus.

Thank you all for your support of the building project and for your patience in the next two years! New, well-designed buildings can have a real impact on learning in ways that help our students be prepared for the 21st century!

My best,
