State mandated screening in grades 5-8 to begin soon

Dear Middle School Parents,
Starting next week I will be begin state mandated screening for grades 5th - 8th. The screening will be held throughout the month of November. I will be starting with the 5th and 6th grade. The 5th grade will have postural screening for Scoliosis and Vision. The 6th & 8th grade will have postural screenings. The 7th grade will have vision, hearing, height, weight and postural screening. I will be explaining to the 5th grade class what to expect when we do the postural screening. The students will be screened individually. I ask that all girls wear a tank top or sports bra the day they are due to be screened. This type of clothing allows more accurate observation of the back. I will be screening the 6th grade on 11/1 and the 5th grade on 11/2. Grades 7th and 8th will be later in the month.
The purpose of the postural (scoliosis) screening is to find early signs of possible spinal problems in children grades 5th-8th. If I have any concerns I will notify you.
